ABOUT
Street photography and personal work.
When people write within this section they often (as I do in my food site), talk in the third person,”Howard Shooter has been a food photographer…” etc etc. However this site is a bit of a different proposition for me. I’ve been a professional food photographer and very much part of the food industry furniture for 25 years. But ever since I was 12 years old (so 35 years in total) I’ve had a passion to shoot street photography and study people. (these statements always remind me of Monty Python’s “Lumberjack song”)
From a photography perspective I always tell my assistants or students that the only way to become a better photographer is to get out there and shoot and shoot and shoot and to try and understand what drives this burning desire to photograph the world around you. From weekends with kids in tow where my family are asking me to hurry up, to me entering shops and restaurants and asking the owners if I can take a few shots this selection represents a much more personal selection of my life’s great passion.
So I have finally decided to collate years worth of images that I have taken from all around the world and right into my backyard partly to try and make sense of it myself. I suppose looking at the work it shows the emotional introspection and the humanity within people from all walks of life. The sense of us all wanting to better ourselves and get on top of adversity that frames our lives. Gender, colour, wealth, age all seem irrelevant when facing our own personal narratives.
I hope you like my journey
